One of the pieces that we're missing the most this year is the opportunity to sing, dance, harmonize together. Through the power of technology, our lefty Jewish world is coming together to sing into Neilah, and close our Yom Kippur, praying for justice, healing, and dignity.
By September 11th, we are asking anyone interested to record a video of themselves singing Open Up The Gates, from the tune of 'Galeh' by Moshe Shur, and adaptation from our own Rabbi Joseph Berman and Batya Levine.
Your face and voice will appear in a video our communities will share at Neilah at the end of Yom Kippur, and the days after. Please read on for the instructions on how to sing along! By singing along to a “master track” recording, we will be able to edit your voices to sing along, simultaneously! This works when you are able to hear the master track in your headphones, and record yourself via video. We’ll take the videos and edit it together!
If you do not communicate by voice/singing, please consider recording footage of yourself dancing, smiling, or signing the lyrics.
If you do not want to be on video for any reason but want your voice included, you can record an audio file and submit it the same way.

Instructions:
You will need:
A video recorder (phone or computer)
An audio player (a second device)
Headphones to connect to audio player.
Follow these steps:
Gather materials. You’ll need two devices, one that plays tracks into headphones, and one that will record your video.
Listen to the master track. You’ll be singing over the master track, and we’ll capture your voice singing along.
Set your surroundings. Put your video recorder on a steady shelf or table. Make sure your head and shoulders are visible, and there is no background noise. Set your recording horizontal, instead of vertical.
Record! Once you’ve tested your tech, hit record on the video recorder, then play on the master track. Sing along, and have fun! When you’re done, end the recording.
Upload the file to the google drive. If you’re able, label the track with your name, and the name of the song. Confused about how to upload a file? You can also email it to highholydays@hinenubaltimore.org!
